Keep It Cohesive
Your invitation is your guests first look at your wedding style. The style should hint at the formality of your wedding. For example, if you are having a black-tie wedding, we would suggest a very elegant invitation suite. If you're getting married on the beach, choose a design with tropical hints. The most important part is to make sure you have an idea of the type of wedding you are hosting before you even begin shopping for stationary. Once you decide the formality, make sure you choose complimentary colors. These colors should be translated to your escort cards, menu cards, and ceremony programs. The colors should also be complimentary to your decor and floral arrangements.
Keep It Minimal
When wording your invitations, list only the key details: ceremony time and location, the hosts, the couple's names, the dress code (optional) and RSVP information. Your wedding planner can assist you with the correct wording for specific situations like divorced parents or how to not mention parents at all. Additional information should be either printed on an enclosure card or on your wedding website. These extra details could be dress code, directions to the ceremony and/or reception, and pre/post-wedding activities.

Aim to order your invitation suite about four to five months prior to your wedding so that you will have them ready to mail out six to eight weeks prior. Your RSVP's will be on a separate enclosure card and should be dated to be returned no more than three to four weeks before the wedding. Your caterer can give you a date that they will need the final guest count by. Your guest count can also affect your seating chart and how many centerpieces and other decor elements you will need.
Ordering Your Invitations
When deciding the amount to order, make sure you are counting the households and not the individual guests. This could potentially cut your order in half! We also recommend ordering an extra 25 invitations. It can be costly to have to send in another order, so it's best to order extras at the first go-around. These are handy in case you need to resend one or want to keep a couple for keepsakes. Don't forget to order the rest of your suite along with your invitations. This can include menu cards, escort cards, programs, and thank you cards. Some companies, like Minted, will even address your envelopes for you if you provide them with your guest list.
